Measuring Success

Do you consider yourself successful?

At what point in your life do you consider yourself successful?

Is your definition of success tied to your career, your business, your job? Is it measured by monetary gains, or promotions, or personal satisfaction?

Some people work to make a living and some people live to work. There was a time in history when people worked from sun up until sundown just to provide the basics for the family. Food, Shelter and clothing were the most important things. These people were not considered workaholics because it was just what you did to survive. Success was measured by the size of a crop, or the amount of meat from the hunt, or sturdiness of the dwelling to withstand a storm.

Are your goals for success just for yourself or are you doing it for your family? In the business world, there are tons of successful people with success stories that are phenomenal. There are also tons of successful people that failed miserably at the family level.

Success feels good, but you cannot truly appreciate that feeling unless you’ve failed. Life is full of little failures and little successful achievements. We have to learn to live with and appreciate both. We’ve all heard the stories about “near death” experiences, and every one of those people who experienced it, talk about living their lives differently. So, you cannot succeed unless you’ve failed, you cannot live unless you’ve died, and you cannot know happiness unless you’ve known heartbreak.

Whether you are a business owner, or a business professional, mom and pop or mega corporate, the bottom line is that ups and downs are the norm. There is a thin line between success and failure and to survive in today’s world of business, you must constantly adjust, adapt and overcome the problems and pitfalls that we face every day. You, your business, and your way of doing business have to evolve constantly in order to survive. Think back 20 years before the internet was so common. I think we all will agree that the internet has changed the way we do business. If you don’t evolve, you will dissolve.

Makes Cents to me.
